Air conditioner window units are the most popular type of air conditioner unit. They are easy to install and run very quietly and efficiently. Some units will also double up as a heater for use in those cold winter months as well.
There is also another reason why they are so popular and that’s simply because air conditioner window units are much cheaper than the wall mounted units, which can also require much more expensive installation costs.
The air conditioner window units generally come in 5,000 BTU to 25,000 BTU ratings, with the best most models being “Energy Star” rated for cheaper running costs. The higher the BTU output the higher the energy costs are and bigger cooling capacity.
A 5,000 to 6,000 BTU air con unit will typically provide enough cooling output for a 150 to 200 square feet room, which is perfect for a small office or home office. A 25,000 BTU unit will provide enough cooling power for rooms up to 1,700 square feet.
Ideally, I would recommend you look for a model that provides energy saving modes, a 24 hour timer, and removable filters for easy cleaning.

There are a several companies who manufacturer air con window units, such as Frigidaire, Sharp, and Haier. All the products by these manufacturers are excellent, so the model you choose is really down your own personal preference and budget.
For example, a compact Frigidaire air conditioner can be bought for around $135-$150 and this provides an excellent 5200 BTU for such a small unit. It also has a 24 hour timer, energy saver modes, full function remote control, and variable fan speed.
In the mid-range there are several Frigidaire and Haier air conditioner window units. The Haier is a very stylish model and includes a digital timer and temperature settings, 3 cool and fan speeds, dehumidification mode, and full function remote control. Generally, the mid range models proves between 10,000 and 12,000 BTU and the higher end models provide between 15,000 and 25,000 BTU.
Your most important choice when purchasing a window air conditioner unit it choosing the one with the right cooling capacity for the room it’s intended for. An air conditioner unit with a too-low BTU for your room size will not work efficiently.
I personally recommend that if you want to find the best air conditioner window units for your needs then you read the reviews of existing customers. This way you will learn about the various advantages and disadvantages of each unit before you buy. I own the Frigidaire FAA055P7A as it’s so small and quiet, but remember to check-out your room requirements first.
